The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own gradual return to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
